Trusty Steed Dodge - In Memorium

Dodge and Sir PJ On July 6, 2001, my Trusty Steed, Dodge, passed on. Dodge will be well remembered by all who knew and loved him. He came into my life during my lowest point as I struggled to claw my way back upward from a long series of concurrent and consecutive life setbacks. Many tears and joys we shared together as he nobly and valiantly hauled me around. He was due for retirement shortly as I am moving to England however the trials of continued heavy work and a lack of funds for maintenance finally took it's toll.

In my stories, I have used Dodge as my foil to bounce my observations and philosophies off of plus he helped me think aloud as I dealt with new (or sometimes old) issues of life. To most people, Dodge was simply a 1981 Dodge cargo van. But for me, Dodge had life and I endeavored to treat Dodge as another person rather than a vehicle.

Perhaps one of the funniest occurrences was with Kealani, one of my internet chat room friends. She was an avid reader of my continued stories and always looked forward to each chapter as I posted them. One day, I had my friend Peter take a picture of Dodge and me which I then posted to my web site. Soon afterward, I received an email from Kealani expressing her utter surprise that Dodge was actually a van and not a horse! In my stories, I never actually called Dodge a van or a vehicle or a horse and she had always taken it for granted that I actually owned a horse. Isn't the power of illusion great? (grin)

Anyway, the wonderful people at Volunteers of America accepted Dodge as a donation. So after a fashion, even in death Dodge continues to be of service in the Health and Help of the People. He is a shining example to us all of selfless service and friendship.

Fare well Dodge, my Trusty Steed. Walk with Creator in Dignity and Honor!
